I have a friend that has been after me for years to work with her selling mary kay. She’s one of these women that jumps from one type of business to another trying to find that job that will make her tons of money in a short period of time. Now I must admit i’ve sold beauty skin care products through avon many years ago and didn’t do too bad. It just really wasn’t the thing for me all that selling , taking orders and making sure customers were happy with their cosmetics and beauty supplies just got to be a drag after a while. Not wanting to get sucked into a program like Amway i did some research on mary kay and found out its quite similar in structure. Its a tiered selling system where each person is an independant beauty consultant that sells the makeup, cosmetics and skin care products to friends, family and neighbors. There were many places that really shed a horrible light on selling for Mary Kay by pointing out disadvantages of quotas, getting stuck with tons of beauty care products they will never user, buying too much of their own makeup and things like that. Others seem do quite well selling the mary kay line of products and love it. I guess its all a matter of perspective. I think I’ll hold off on becoming a rep for mary kay as I really haven’t seen that big of an improvement in my friends financial life since she started peddeling their cosmetics. I see her spending more time trying to talk others into joining than actually making money selling skin care products. Each to his own I guess.
